What's the Difference? (Clay Edition)
Air-dry clay or potter's clay? Which one should you choose?
The answer depends on your goal. Air dry clay dries at room temperature, but the objects you make with it cannot hold water, and can break easily.
Potter’s clay needs to be fired in a kiln, but will last a lifetime if handled carefully.
Potter’s clay is much cheaper than air dry clay, and can easily be bought in large quantities.
So... if you want your child to experience getting their hands stuck into clay, but you don’t really need to keep the things they make, choose potter’s clay. It is certainly ‘more clay for your money’.
And if you want your child to make something at home that can be painted and displayed, choose air dry clay.
